Members,
There has been communication with payroll staff who have informed MPEA that they are doing everything they can to get retroactive pay out the door. The original proposal was to have retro pay be paid in six batches by October. There were members of payroll staff that pushed back on this to get this completed sooner and had convinced Payroll leadership to get their techs (represented by ACFSME) and supervisors (non-repped) to put in the work to get this done sooner.
That being said, payroll staff have indicated to me with over 700 employees expecting backpay, they have voiced that they do not have the capacity to provide these with how quickly they’re trying to process these retroactive payments unless the backpay schedule was delayed. MPEA wanted to be able to provide more information that was provided by payroll to help employees make their own calculations to figure out how much they were paid with backpay. If you would like assistance or would like someone to check your math, reach out to MPEA before contacting payroll staff.
Note that there are several caveats that should be considered with your backpay– healthcare premiums had different increase amounts, any overtime complicates the calculations, and the year-end sick leave payout is not part of the retroactive pay as that is effective 12/31 by law.
The paycheck dated on 1/9 was for the hours worked entirely in December, so there is no back pay for those weeks. The first check paid on 1/23 includes the dates from 12/28-1/10. During the first week of that cycle, there were no changes in pay for work on 12/28-12/31. Only Thursday (1/1) and Friday (1/2) should be considered as dates that would be lumped into backpay.
As a reminder, please see below the pay schedule from the communication sent by the association back in July.
